It’s great to see the completion of the Workshops Pier reconstruction in Victoria — a project that presented some genuinely complex engineering challenges and required a highly considered, buildable solution. AW Maritime was heavily involved in developing the structural solution, working through the challenges of stabilising an ageing and highly deteriorated deck while maintaining functionality during construction.

A key part of the approach was the development of a modular strengthening system that:
• Enabled the existing structure to be made safe for construction works
• Integrated new structural support, services, and fendering into a single efficient solution
• Allowed for piles to be installed through the modules using an innovative and highly constructable connection detail

This approach not only improved safety and durability but also delivered a practical and cost-effective outcome for the client.

Projects like this are a reminder that good maritime engineering is as much about constructability and problem-solving as it is about analysis and design.
