Inspection and Temporary Protection of the Seawall at Torquay Surf Beach

The seawall between the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) and the Third Wave Kiosk at Torquay Surf Beach in Victoria underwent a level 3 inspection due to damage in the seawall and boat ramp, caused by coastal erosion.

AWM undertook a detailed level 3 inspection which included a detailed condition assessment of the wave deflectors, capping, and bluestone along the entire seawall face. The inspection scope was expanded to include the SLSC boat ramp after damage was identified. The condition assessment was conducted in accordance with the Wharf Structures Condition Assessment Manual, and documented defects requiring immediate remedial work and included a photographic log of the entire structure.

AW Maritime’s temporary design solution was the placement of 1-tonne and 4-tonne rock bags with geotextile in front of the wall. AWM expediated the design drawings so the bags could be installed. AWM supported the GORCPA though the rock bag installation with site supervision to ensure compliance with the design intent.
